By default you connect to eMondrian on the machine where it runs, at http://localhost/xmla. To connect Excel or Power BI from another computer, use the server’s network address.

eMondrian Community has no authentication. Anyone who can reach the server can query all data, edit schemas, read logs and use the MCP tools. Open it only to a trusted network — never to the internet. See Security.
1. Find the server address
On the server:
- Linux:
hostname -I - Windows (Command Prompt):
Use the IPv4 Address of the network adapter your users connect through.ipconfig
2. Build the XMLA address
http://<server-address>/xmla
For example, if the server address is 192.168.100.4:
http://192.168.100.4/xmla
If you changed EMONDRIAN_PORT in .env, add the port: http://192.168.100.4:8081/xmla.
Check it from the client machine by opening http://<server-address> in a browser — you should see the eMondrian main page.
3. Connect
Use this address as the Server name in Excel or as the Server in Power BI.
AI agents use http://<server-address>/emondrian/mcp/sse — see AI agents (MCP).
If it doesn’t connect
- Firewall: the server’s firewall must allow inbound connections on the eMondrian port (80, or your
EMONDRIAN_PORT). On Windows, add an inbound rule for that TCP port in Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security; on Linux, checkufw/firewalld. - Docker Desktop on Windows publishes ports on the host — make sure the port isn’t blocked by another service.
- Proxy: corporate proxies can block plain HTTP. Ask your network team, or put eMondrian behind a reverse proxy with HTTPS — see Security.
